Google Project Fi finally gets an additional member among its very limited number of supported handsets. The Lenovo’s Moto X4 – the rumored upcoming smartphone that will utilize the Google’s mobile network operator. Expected to come this later this year.
What Is Google Project Fi
If you are wondering what Project Fi is, it is Google’s version of a mobile carrier. But unlike other mobile phone data carrier, it gets its data from three major data service provider (T-Mobile, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular). It uses an intelligent algorithm to detect the strongest signal in your area and automatically switch to it to provide a smooth and uninterrupted data service.
Project Fi is a prepaid carrier which means the customer pays upfront for the services he will receive. A $20 charge for a month of unlimited call and text service. For data, a $10 charge flat rate for every gigabyte that you consume.
The customer will pay for an estimated amount of data that he thinks he is going to consume. Depending on the usage, a refund or an extra charge will appear on the customer’s bill.
Moto X4 is the latest in the “X” series since Motorola released its X-Force smartphone almost two years ago. People assumed that the X series of Motorola will not get any more handsets anytime soon. The series has been quiet since it’s been more than a year without any buzz or sign of new model.
The leaked information about the new Moto X4 was from a photo shared by Evan Blass on his Twitter account. This Motorola device will most likely launch this year. According to the image posted, there will be nine handsets. One of those is the curious Moto X4.
The Moto X4 will have Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with 4GB RAM and a fingerprint reader. It has 64GB of built-in storage with 3,800mAh of the battery. That should be enough to keep you through the day or maybe till the next one if you are not such a heavy user. It is decent for those who use their phones for simple activities such as minor browsing, SMS, and call.
There are three significant features of this phone. It has dual cameras, 3D Glass and will support Google Project Fi. Despite it, as a low-cost smartphone, it belongs to the higher end mid-tier types.
Note that Moto X4 will not be compatible for the Moto Mods as you will notice that it does not have any magnetic port at the back.
The Moto X4 will launch probably in the 4th quarter this year. And since it is still months before its release date, the specs mentioned might get some changes. That will depend on Lenovo’s plan about the handset and if they find some necessary adjustment as the 4th quarter arrives.
